Area Schools Announce Closures Ahead of Arctic Blast

Many suburban schools will be closed Wednesday and Thursday.

Several suburban schools have announced closures in the coming days. Here is a look at schools that plan to close:

WHEELING DISTRICT 21: All schools will be closed Wednesday and Thursday.

DISTRICT 102 (APTAKISIC-TRIPP DISTRICT) will be closed Wednesday. More information is available here.

DISTRICT 103 (LINCOLNSHIRE-PRAIRIE VIEW DISTRICT) will close on Wednesday and there will be no after school activities. After school activities are still planned to continue as usual on Tuesday. More information is available here.

DISTRICT 127: High schools will close at 6 p.m. Tuesday. Schools will be closed Wednesday and Thursday. More information is available here.

GRAYSLAKE DISTRICT 46: All activities will be cancelled after 5 p.m. on Tuesday. Schools will be closed on Wednesday and Thursday.

District 70
School is canceled on Wednesday for District 70 schools. As anticipated, in concert with many local school systems, the severe cold and dangerous wind chills have resulted in the early determination to cancel school, school officials said.
All Libertyville District 70 schools and associated extracurricular activities, as well as Champions programming, have also been canceled.

“As we look to Thursday, January 31st, superintendents will again convene tomorrow with hopes of a midday decision regarding school planning. We look forward to warmly welcoming students back as early as possible,” according to a note posted on the District 70 website.

District 128

Due to the predicted extreme temperatures and wind chills, Vernon Hills High School, Libertyville High School and the District 128 offices will be closed Wednesday. All activities scheduled for Wednesday, including athletic practices, competitions and Community Education classes are canceled.

“District Administrators will continue to monitor and plan for the continued extreme weather and will make a decision on the status of school for Thursday around midday on Wednesday,” according to a note posted on the District 128 website.

ST. CHARLES DISTRICT 303: Schools will be closed Wednesday and Thursday. In addition, all before and after school activities on those two days are also cancelled.

GENEVA SCHOOL DISTRICT 304: Geneva School District schools will be closed Wednesday and Thursday, Jan. 30-31, due to extreme temperatures. School activities also will be canceled. Monitor the district website for additional information.

U-46 IN ELGIN

All after-school activities and athletics must be concluded by 6 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 29, and all schools will be closed Wednesday, Jan. 30, and Thursday, Jan. 31 due to the extreme winter weather. More information via the U-46website.

HUNTLEY DISTRICT 158

The District will close beginning at 6:00 p.m. tonight, January 29, including schools and activities, through Thursday, January, 31, 2019.
Schools and activities will resume on Friday, February 1, 2019.

DISTRICT 47 IN CRYSTAL LAKE

All after-school and evening activities (except the Crystal Lake Park District’s Extended Time program) are canceled for Tuesday. In addition, schools will be closed Wednesday and Thursday.

DISTRICT 300

District 300 schools will be closed on Wednesday, January 30t, and Thursday, January 31. On Wednesday and Thursday, all after-school practices, extra-curriculars, performances, and competitions are also cancelled. High School cheerleaders traveling to state will still leave as planned on Thursday. More information is available here.

PRAIRIE GROVE DISTRICT 46: Due to the weather forecast of a wind chill warning beginning Tuesday evening and extending through Thursday morning, all after-school and evening activities on Tuesday (1/29/19) are canceled and schools will be closed on Wednesday (1/30/19) and Thursday (1/31/19).

CARY DISTRICT 26: all schools will be closed on Wednesday and Thursday. More information via the District 26 website.

CRYSTAL LAKE DISTRICT 155: Crystal Lake’s District 155 has announced schools will be closed Wednesday and Thursday due to the extreme cold temps expected for the area. Also, after-school activities and evening events are cancelled for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.More information is available here.

STEVENSON HIGH SCHOOL DISTRICT 125 — Stevenson has announced the following cancellations and closures:

Tuesday, Jan. 29

  • Girls basketball games will be played but all levels will have an earlier start. Please see the SHS Athletic Schedule page for details.
  • The boys swimming and diving meet is rescheduled for Jan. 31.
  • The Baroque Ensemble Concert has been canceled and will be rescheduled.

Wednesday, Jan. 30

  • The Stevenson campus will be closed. Students will be completing assignments using an e-Learning Day format

  • The Stand Strong Coalition Community Forum on marijuana legislation has been canceled.

Thursday, Jan. 31
