Car Crashes Into Funeral Home In Cary, Causing Gas Leak

The area was evacuated after the gas leak, authorities said.

CARY, IL — A woman crashed her car into the former Windridge Funeral Home in Cary Tuesday, police said. The crash caused a gas leak in the area and forced an evacuation.

The woman, who is in her 70s, crashed into the building around 10:50 a.m., according to the Cary Police Department.

She was taken to Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington, authorities said. Her condition was not known.

Her car struck the building's gas meter and line, and parts of High and Cary roads were blocked off for about two hours, authorities said. ComEd cut power to the building to eliminate possible fire hazards.

Authorities said the building sustained significant damage, and was shifted on its foundation.
