Cary Inmate's Death In McHenry County Jail Still A Mystery

After being found unresponsive in his cell on Friday, he was taken to the hospital and pronounced dead.

WOODSTOCK, IL — The McHenry County Coroner's Office is continuing to investigate the death of a Cary man who was found unresponsive in his cell Friday. He was in custody at the McHenry County Jail at the time for contempt of court.

Thomas Doheny, 51, of Cary, was found unresponsive in his single-occupancy cell around 8:10 p.m. Friday when jail staff members were doing their rounds. They took lifesaving measures, according to the press release. He was then taken to Centrega Woodstock Medical Center where he was pronounced dead at 8:53 p.m. Friday.

The sheriff's office said Doheny had been incarcerated on a contempt of court charge since Nov. 1. He was dealing with a divorce case from 2014 when the judge decided to hold him in contempt.

The coroner's office said the autopsy revealed nothing suspicious and he showed no signs of a significant natural disease, according to the press release.
