Cary Looks at Downtown Improvements
A consultant has been hired to look at ways to make streetscape and sidewalk improvements in downtown Cary.

The village's Committee of a Whole last week heard from its consulting group on recommendations for improvements in downtown Cary, such as changes to sidewalks that would include more area for pedestrians, options for trees and plantings and the addition of new signs and more green space, the Northwest Herald reports.
Hitchcock Design Group's study looked at street and sidewalk improvements to Main, High, Jandus, Cary and Spring streets and the Metra station, according to the article.
The conceptual design study is meant to help guide the village in establishing design themes, budgets, and phasing priorities for future improvements to the streetscape in the historic downtown district, according to village documents. This analysis was approved as part of the current fiscal year 2015-2016 budget.
The downtown streetscape improvements could include: street and sidewalk improvements, lighting, landscaping and furnishings, gateway signage, sustainability components and other design themes, according to the Committee of a Whole agenda packet.
Feedback from the Committee of the Whole will be utilized in the completion of the draft recommendations that will be discussed again as part of the upcoming fiscal year 2016-2017 Budget Workshop, according to Cary officials.
