Cary Police To Reward Kids Wearing Helmets

Police will hand out coupons to kids who they see wearing their helmets and other protective gear while riding their bikes and scooters.

From Cary PD: Beginning June 1, 2018, the Cary Police Department, in partnership with Pediatric Associates of Barrington, Kojaks (Cary), Breaking Bread (Cary and Crystal Lake), Country Donuts (Crystal Lake) and Culvers (all locations), will begin an incentive program to encourage children to wear a helmet while riding their bike, scooter, roller skates/blades.

Dr. Margaret “Maggie” Stefani from Pediatric Associations of Barrington, who is also a resident of Cary, created this program by requesting and receiving donations from local businesses to provide vouchers for free French-fries (Breaking Bread), ice cream (Kojaks), donuts (Country Donuts), and custard (Culvers). Patrol Officers will have these vouchers in their patrol vehicles, which they will issue to children ages 13 and under, who they see wearing their helmets and other protective gear while riding their bikes, scooters, and roller blades/skates this summer.

The Cary Police Department would like to thank Dr. Maggie Stefani for her commitment to preventing head injuries sustained by young children this summer, as well as Culvers, Breaking Bread, Kojaks, and Country Donuts for supporting this initiative. We wish everyone a fun and safe summer!
