Cary School District 26 School Board to Discuss Negotiations, Maplewood

The Board of Education will hold its' regular meeting tonight at 7 p.m.

After back and forth between and the Cary Education Assocation, the two will meet again.

"The board will take a look at and thoughtfully consider the recent offer by the CEA," Jason Larry, vice-president of the Board of Education said.

The teachers' union proposed a new contract last Wednesday.

Larry said the two have been working to set their next meeting date and is hopeful that it will happen early this week soon after the regular scheduled board meeting.

Regarding the unbiased facilitator, recall that our last seven to eight meetings have taken place with an unbiased facilitator who specializes in this kind of thing, Larry added.

"We are open to new ideas and will discuss more in our meetings this coming week."

Along with the negotiations update during the regular board meeting, the board will discuss and possibly take action on the property, which was put out for a bid of $2.2 million earlier in June.

At the Aug. 8 finance committee meeting, Steve Fields, coordinator of operations for the district outlined four options the district could take, which includes waiting for the , turn the sale of Maplewood over to a professional broker, re-bid the property at a lower price or negotiate with the on the property.

The board will also tackled their consent agenda, which includes employment, recalls, resignations and retirements.

There is an agenda item for community input at the beginning of the meeting and another item for community input on future items after all the regular board meeting agenda has been addressed.
