Cary Village Board Turns Down $60K Donation
The village board did not like that the donors were anonymous.

CARY, IL – The Cary Village Board voted 3-2 to deny a $60,000 anonymous donation after debates among trustees and within the community as over the need for the donor's anonymity. Mayor Mark Kownick, Cary's village administrator and village attorney are the only ones who know who the donors are and some on the village board argued their identities should be more widely known–with some stating that not knowing who they are creates the appearance of misconduct, the Northwest Herald reports. And one trustee, Trustee Jennifer Weinhammer, questioned what the donors may want in return if the village accepted the $60,000.
The donation has since been returned but the donors, a couple, said they are still willing to hand the cash over if the village has a change of heart, according to the newspaper.
