Child Flown To Hospital After Fall At Climbing Gym

A young child was seriously injured after a 15-foot fall at North Wall in Crystal Lake, officials said.

Fire and police crews responded to the climbing gym at 824 Main Street in Crystal Lake around 1:47 p.m. to assist with the reported fall. The child was taken to Northwestern Hospital in Huntley and then taken by medical helicopter to a hospital for further treatment, fire officials told Patch.

Crystal Lake Fire Rescue Deputy Chief Mark Menzel said identifying information regarding the fall, including the child's age, is not being released due to privacy laws. The child was in stable condition after being transferred from the ambulance to the medical helicopter.

Menzel said he was not aware of what safety gear was being used at the time of the fall.

The call, he said, is a rare one for the the Crystal Lake Fire/Rescue District.

"We do not respond to many fall-related incidents at recreational facilities. It has been some time since we responded to any incidents at that facility," he said.
