Children Initially 'Unaccounted For' Amid Massive Barn Fire Found Safe: Officials

No one was injured in the massive blaze in the 4100 block of Dean Street in unincorporated Woodstock.

WOODSTOCK, IL — No one was injured when a barn used for wood-working started on fire early Tuesday morning near Woodstock.

When the Woodstock Fire/Rescue District was initially called to the scene of the blaze at about 11:30 a.m. in the 4100 block of Dean Street in unincorporated Woodstock, residents told fire crews that two children living on the property were "unaccounted for." When they arrived at the scene, they learned the children had been located.

Firefighters first at the scene found heavy smoke coming from a 35- by 40-foot barn, according to a news release from the Woodstock Fire/Rescue District. Firefighters were able to bring the many blaze under control within 20 minutes.

Firefighters remained at the scene for an additional two hours to put out remaining hot spots. The barn, which was mainly used for woodworking, did not have any animals or livestock inside.

No injuries were reported in the blaze, fire officials said.

The barn and its contents have been considered a total loss. The fire is not believed to be suspicious in nature, but the cause remains under investigation by the Woodstock Fire/Rescue District.
