Coroner IDs Man Killed In Crash Near St. Charles
The collision happened Wednesday afternoon on Route 31 in unincorporated St. Charles Township.
KANE COUNTY, IL — The Kane County Coroner's Office has identified a 26-year-old man killed in a crash near St. Charles on Wednesday afternoon as Eric Castaneda of Elgin.
The collision happened at about 2 p.m. on Route 31 north of McLean Boulevard in unincorporated St. Charles Township. Authorities said a Toyota Camry headed north on Route 31 crossed the centerline and hit a southbound Peterbilt semitruck head-on.
The driver of the Toyota, who was later identified as Castaneda, was taken to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The driver of the semi, a 68-year-old Wisconsin man, was not injured.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
