Crystal Lake Among Best Small Cities In America: Study

CRYSTAL LAKE, IL — Crystal Lake is among the best small cities in America, according to a recent study by WalletHub. The rankings came from 33 factors of "livability" from school quality to housing costs and restaurants.

The findings ranked 1,268 cities with populations between 25,000 and 100,000 based on affordability, economic health, education and health, quality of life and safety, with Crystal Lake ranking in the 91st percentile.

Crystal Lake ranked 84th in the country in affordability, 182nd in education and health and 166th in safety.

Lots of other Illinois towns in the immediate area made the list, including St. Charles in the 95th percentile, Algonquin in the 97th percentile and Lake in the Hills in the 94th percentile.

The 99th percentile represents the top 1 percent of small cities in America, according to WalletHub. The top-ranked city with the highest total score was Princeton, New Jersey, while Bessemer, Alabama, which calls itself "The Marvel City," ranked last. Read the full rankings here.
