Crystal Lake Library Evacuated After Bomb Threat

Authorities have determined the threat is not credible. The library will remain closed until Tuesday morning.

CRYSTAL LAKE, IL — The Crystal Lake Public Library was evacuated and closed for the day following a bomb threat.

Authorities have determined the threat does not appear to be credible, police said late Monday afternoon.

Earlier in the afternoon, police responded to the library at 126 W. Paddock Street after a library employee received a phone call from someone who claimed there was a bomb inside or near the building. The library was evacuated and secured as a precautionary measure, according to police.

A search of the building and the immediate area was conducted with the help of a specialized canine, and the search did not turn up anything suspicious, according to a news release.

"At this time, based on the evidence gathered during the investigation, the report does not appear credible. There were no injuries as a result of this incident and there is no known threat to the public at this time," according to a statement from police.

The Crystal Lake library closed following the incident and will reopen at 9 a.m. Tuesday.

This incident remans under investigation and authorities are encouraging anyone with information related to this case to contact the Crystal Lake Police Department at 815-356-3620.
