Crystal Lake Makes Midwest Living List of Weekend Getaways Near Chicago

Crystal Lake may be home for your family but it is being considered a weekend vacation destination by others.

Midwest Living magazine has listed Crystal Lake among its top 25 weekend getaways near Chicago. Nearby, Woodstock also made the list.

“A spring-fed lake and the new Three Oaks Recreation Area—with beach, boardwalk, playground, spray park and hiking trails—await visitors,” according to Midwest Living.

Crystal Lake’s shopping and restaurants also got a shout out by the magazine.

Woodstock’s Mozart Festival in early August, its farmers market and the annual Groundhogs Day Festival were mentioned as reasons to visit.

“It’s just a train ride from Chicago, but Woodstock feels anything but suburban,” according to Midwest Living. “The historic town square (famously featured in Groundhog Day) is adorable, with great home decor shops, a cozy bookstore and the perfect lunch spot, La Petite Creperie.”

Other communities to make Midwest Living’s list, include: the Fox River Valley, Rockford, Milwaukee, Madison, Glen Ellyn, Crystal Lake and Woodstock.
