Crystal Lake OKs New Refuse, Recycling Contract

The contract with Prairieland Disposal was approved at a February 20 meeting.

From The City of Crystal Lake: The City is pleased to announce that at the February 20, 2018 City Council meeting, the City Council approved a contract with Prairieland Disposal for unlimited refuse, recycling and yard waste collection services. This new contract will result in decreased rates for residential customers that utilize curbside collection.

Prairieland will begin collection services on May 1, 2018. Prairieland was selected through a competitive request for proposals process. The City initiated this process since the existing contract with MDC Environmental Services is set to expire on April 30, 2018. The request for proposals process allows the City to select refuse haulers through a fair, open and competitive process. While the City’s current hauler, MDC Environmental, submitted pricing, it did not provide the lowest price to continue to provide collection services. Prairieland Disposal will provide the same scope of services as the current provider. This includes unlimited collection, refuse and recycling totes included in the base rate, collection of one bulk item per week, and no change in collection days. The following table details the monthly rate changes to take effect on May 1: Unlimited Refuse, Recycling and Yard Waste Collection, including one bulk item per week.
