Crystal Lake PD Focuses On Suicide Prevention, Awareness

As part of the Coffee With A Chief program, the local police department will educate the public on suicide prevention techniques.

CRYSTAL LAKE, IL – With the hopes of increasing awareness and preventing future suicides, the Crystal Lake Police Department is inviting the public to a free presentation on Tuesday evening. The Suicide Prevention and Awareness presentation will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Crystal Lake Police Department, 100 W Woodstock Street in Crystal Lake.

Held as part of the department's Coffee With A Chief program, Chief James Black and members of the Crystal Lake Police Department will host the free presentation, which includes coffee, conversation and the educational program on suicide prevention and awareness, according to a press release from the Crystal Lake Police Department.

Representatives from the Suicide Prevention Task Force will provide a training on a technique known as "Question, Persuade, and Refer" or QPR. The method is meant to save lives and reduce suicidal behaviors by providing innovative, practical and proven suicide prevention training.
