Crystal Lake South High School Students Are Making A Difference

Crystal Lake South High School student council members are being praised for their efforts to help make prom affordable for students by securing dozens of dress and accessory donations for My Sister’s Dress sale.

Student council members coordinated promotional and marketing efforts to help event organizers get the word out to the Crystal Lake South High School community about the need for new and gently used formal dresses, purses, jewelry and shoes for My Sister’s Dress. Students, families and staff went above and beyond. As a result, a huge box overflowing with dozens of dresses, shoes and accessories were collected for the event and donated.

This year, My Sister’s Dress was back in person and held at McHenry County College on February 25. The event raised a record $10, 332 and funds will benefit Home of the Sparrow and MCC’s Education to Empowerment.

The committee was floored at the amount of dresses donated in so little time. With the help of Crystal Lake South High School’s student council members, other student groups, volunteers and community partners, 1,481 dresses were donated for the sale.

“This was a record-breaking year, our last sale in 2020 raised about half the amount as this year. This indicates we are reaching more students and truly helping make prom more affordable. Thank you all for your work to make this event possible,” said a My Sister’s Dress committee member.
