D155 Art Students Awarded Over $1.3 Million In Scholarships
The local students won the scholarships from various art schools and the Illinois High School Art Exhibition.
CRYSTAL LAKE-CARY, IL - From Community High School District 155: Fifteen District 155 students earned over $1.3 million in scholarships from various art schools and the Illinois High School Art Exhibition (IHSAE). Nine Cary-Grove students were awarded $723,200 and six Crystal Lake Central students received $636,000 in scholarships. The fifth annual IHSAE featured the best 1,000 student artists from more than 125 Illinois high schools.
Crystal Lake Central students Megan Adams, Catherine DelSanto, Mateo Herrera, Kailey Lesser, Iliana Portincaso and Annalise Rauchenberger submitted a portfolio of 12-25 works to be considered for college and IHSAE scholarships and had their work on display.
Cary-Grove students Alyssa Alarcon, Victoria Grudzien, Avery Henegar, Hailey Hochel, Maggie Miller, Sarina Mugino, Fiona Pack, Benjamin Sandquist and Ashley Williams had their artwork on display at Bridgeport’s Zhou B Art Center and Bridgeport Art Center from February 12 - March 9.

Maggie Miller, a scholarship recipient, who has a passion for photography is now considering attending Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design to study photography with an emphasis in advertising.
"As soon as I found out, I took a picture and told my mom, she didn't even believe me! Receiving these scholarships has opened us so many doors for me, It made me realize that I actually have a real chance of going to an art school because of the financial assistance now available to me,” said Maggie Miller, Cary-Grove senior.

The exhibition’s main general exhibition event on Sunday, February 25 featured ceremonies, early college scholarship announcements, award presentations, and college recruitments. Four thousand students, teachers, college representatives and school district administrators attended the state’s largest high school student art exhibition.
The Illinois High School Art Exhibition is a not-for-profit corporation with a mission to advance visual arts education through exhibition. It was developed by teachers for students in 2014 and the organization is run by full-time art educators who collaborate with corporate sponsors, art colleges and universities and high school students.
