District 47 Board Approves Tax Levy and $1M Abatement

The Crystal Lake Elementary District 47 board approved the 2016 proposed tax levy and a $1M abatement in recent voting.

From Crystal Lake Elementary District 47: At the Board of Education meeting on December 12, the Crystal Lake Elementary District 47 board approved the 2016 proposed tax levy in a 6-0 vote. The D47 board also approved a $1 million abatement in a 5-1 vote.

The requested aggregate levy (capped funds and debt service combined) of $76,160,926 will have the debt service portion reduced by the $1 million abatement. The actual tax extension will not be known until spring 2017. The Consumer Price Index (CPI) being used for the 2016 tax levy is 0.7 percent.

“We greatly appreciate and rely on the support of our community and the local tax dollars that help us carry out our mission of educational excellence for all students,” said board president Jeff Mason. “In that vein, we are pleased to issue this abatement to provide some relief to taxpayers.”

This is the second year in a row District 47 has issued an abatement.
