WOODSTOCK, IL — Dozens of chickens and birds died in a barn fire near Woodstock early Saturday, authorities said.

The Woodstock Fire/Rescue District was called to the blaze, which was located on a property in the 9100 block of McConnell Road in unincorporated Woodstock, at about 12:40 a.m. on Saturday, according to a news release.

The 35-foot by 40-foot bar was damaged in the fire and a small garage attached to the north side of the barn was destroyed, according to fire officials. The barn housed dozens of chickens and various birds — most of which died in the fire.

The blaze is not believed to be suspicious in nature, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.

The roadway was closed in both directions during the fire, and no injuries were reported to any firefighters or residents.
