Dozens Of Citations Issued In Commercial Truck Detail In Cary

Authorities set up a weigh station on Route 14 near Silver Lake Road on Oct. 6 to check for unsafe, overweight vehicles, police said.

CARY, IL — Authorities issued tickets to the drivers of commercial trucks that were deemed overweight or in violation of other safety rules during an enforcement detail in Cary earlier this month.

The Cary Police Department, Illinois Department of Transportation and Illinois State Police teamed up to take part in the targeted commercial motor vehicle enforcement on Route 14 in Cary on Oct. 6, according to a news release from the police department.

The Illinois Department of Transprotation provided the portable scales, which were placed in the right lane of westbound Route 14 near Silver Lake Road during the enforcement effort, according to a news release. Signs were placed near the weigh station to let truck drivers know they should pull over and weigh in, Chris Winkelmann, deputy chief of operations for the Cary Police Department, told Patch in an email response.

During the four-hour enforcement campaign, 85 trucks were weighed. The Cary Police Department issued two overweight citations and one citation for safety test violations. The Illinois State Police conducted 17 vehicle inspections, resulting in 89 warnings and one citation.

Authorities also marked nine of the vehicles and their drivers out of service, according to authorities.
