Drunken Driver With Girl, 2, In Car Collides With Semi: Police
Authorities say the toddler was not properly restrained in a car seat when the collision near Woodstock happened Friday night.
MCHENRY COUNTY, IL — A 21-year-old Woodstock woman is accused of driving drunk with her 2-year-old daughter in her car when she crossed the centerline on Route 47 and collided head on with a semi, authorities said. Gabriella Ortiz has been charged with driving under the influence of alcohol in connection with the Sept. 4 collision that happened in the 1300 block of Route 47 in unincorporated Woodstock, according to the news release from the McHenry County Sheriff's Office.
Authorities say Ortiz was driving a 2012 Chevrolet Cruz south on Route 47 at about 8:45 p.m. when the vehicle drove into the northbound lane of traffic and collided head on with a 2005 Western Star truck-tractor, according to the news release. The Chevrolet drove off the road as did the semi, which then collided with a tree and started on fire.
Cruz was extricated from her car and the flown to Javon Bea Hospital - Riverside. She suffered minor injuries, police said. Her 2-year-old daughter, who was not properly restrained in a car seat, was taken to Northwestern Hospital in McHenry for treatment of minor injuries, according to the news release.

The driver of the semi was not injured, according to authorities.
The crash remains under investigation. Ortiz is next expected in court on Sept. 25.
