Former Crystal Lake Central Choir Director Investigated for Having Sex with Former Students

He is also accused of providing the students with alcoholic beverages.

A former Crystal Lake Central choir director is being investigated for having sex with former students at his home in Crystal Lake, police said Wednesday.

Justin Hubly, 35, of 746 Point Drive, is also accused of providing alcoholic beverages to the former students, according to police. He has been charged with two counts of battery, a class A misdemeanor, and one count of unlawful delivery of alcoholic liquor to a minor, a class A misdemeanor.

Hubly was taken into custody Tuesday night. He was released after posting 10 percent of his $10,000 bond, according to a news release from the Crystal Lake Police Department.

The case remains an active investigation and more charges may be coming, police said.

Hubly had been the choir director at Crystal Lake Central since 2004 and also served as student activities director, according to the Northwest Herald. He made $85,290 per year and also served five terms as the president of the District 155 Education Association.

On Nov. 8, the District 155 Board of Education accepted Hubly’s resignation.

In a statement from District 155, school officials said, “We cannot share specific information regarding personnel matters. We have taken appropriate actions to ensure there is no interruption in our student’s learning. We are also cooperating with local authorities. We cannot discuss this matter any further.”
