Gas Station Structure Collapses On 2 Cars In Crystal Lake: Police

CRYSTAL LAKE, IL — High winds may have caused the canopy at the Shell gas station in Crystal Lake to collapse Thursday night, police said.

The Crystal Lake Police Department was called to the gas station in the 200 block of Virginia Street at about 8:40 p.m. Thursday and found the structure, which covered the gas pumps, had fallen over and hit two vehicles, according to a news release from the police department.

One person was inside a vehicle when the canopy collapsed. No injuries have been reported, police said.

It does not appear that anything hit the canopy prior to the collapse, and police believe weather may have contributed to the incident.
