Girl, 6, Pulled From Water At Three Oaks

The girl was taken in stable condition to Advocate General Hospital in Park Ridge.

CRYSTAL LAKE, IL – A young girl has been taken to the hospital after she was found face down in the water at Three Oaks Recreation Area in Crystal Lake Tuesday afternoon, police said. Authorities were called to the popular recreation area, which includes a beach, at 5517 Northwest Highway, at about 12:51 p.m. The girl was pulled from the water by witnesses, who worked with a lifeguard to perform CPR on the 6-year-old, according to a news release from Crystal Lake Police.

Paramedics arrived at the beach and provided "advanced life support treatment" to the juvenile. She was taken by ambulance with her family to Huntley Centegra Hospital.

The girl was breathing and had a heartbeat when she was taken to the hospital, Crystal Lake Police Deputy Chief Thomas Kotlowski told Patch. She was taken by helicopter to Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge in stable condition, police said Tuesday afternoon.

Several Crystal Lake-Cary Patch Facebook followers who were out at Three Oaks Tuesday said it was busy but "not as packed as most days." There were many families with small children who witnessed the girl being pulled from the water.

Aleksandra Etter, 28, of Crystal Lake was among them. Etter, her three children, her sister and her sister's three children had only been in the water for about five minutes when the girl was found.

"I saw them take her limp body out of the park. It was so sad. Everyone was quiet and with their hands over their mouths. Many people including lifeguards were crying," Etter told Patch.

Three Oaks is closed for the rest of Tuesday.

Patch will update with more information as it becomes available.
