Girl Scout Troop 603 Takes Action to Feed the Hungry through Crystal Lake Community Garden

The gardening season is wrapping up for Troop 603! The girls worked together to address the need for fresh vegetables at a local Crystal Lake food pantry. Troop 603’s Girl Scout Take Action Project involved planning, planting, caring for, and harvesting vegetables to be donated to those in need. The girls used troop funds, earned through the Girl Scout Cookie Program, to purchase plants for the garden. They also had help from a generous local garden center.

When the girls were asked why community gardens are important, they shared, “They give food to people who need food, and community gardens bring people together!”

The girls created a YouTube video in which they describe the project, how it started, and why community gardens are important. The video contains a series of interviews with the girls and their community master gardener partners. The video represents the work involved in earning the Girl Scout badge, It’s Your Story Tell It—A World of Girls Journey. See the video at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h70InOn_oAI.
