Heavy Rain Likely Caused Sinkhole in Antioch: Officials
The sinkhole opened up this past week.

ANTIOCH, IL – Officials in Antioch believe torrential rainfalls this past week caused a 20-feet by 20-feet sinkhole to open up at the Pittman Property at the intersection of Main, Depot and Orchard streets, the Daily Herald reports. It's believed the heavy flow from Sequoit Creek caused a culvert at the property to fail. Officials warned residents to steer clear of the sinkhole and have put a large steel road plate over the hole and barricades up until a permanent fix can be made, according to the report.
