Homeowner Charged With Arson Following House Fire in Cary

Police said Daniel Knabusch set his own house on fire last week.

CARY, IL - A Cary homeowner has been charged with arson for causing thousands of dollars in damage after police said he set his own house on fire.

Daniel Knabusch, 33, was formally charged on Friday following an investigation by the Cary Police Department and the Illinois State Fire Marshal's Office into a house fire at 125 Mary Lane in Cary, according to a Cary Police Department press release.

Fire officials were called to the blaze at 3:09 p.m. on April 20. The home was not occupied at the time of the blaze and no one was injured, according to the news release.

Knabusch, the homeowner, was developed as a person of interest. He was served with the charge on Friday while in custody at the McHenry County Sheriff's Office on an unrelated matter, police said.

Knabush remained in custody Monday afternoon. A $4,150 bail was set in his case, according to online jail records.
