House Fire Shuts Down Route 120 Friday Morning

The cause of the fire in the vacant home remains under investigation, authorities said.

MCHENRY, IL — The cause of a blaze inside a vacant home that led to Route 120 in McHenry being shut down Friday morning is under investigation, fire officials said. The McHenry Township Fire Protection District was called to the fire at 2009 W. Route 120 at 6:02 a.m., according to a news release from the fire protection district.

Firefighters first at the scene found smoke and flames coming from the first floor of the two-story home, according to a news release. Thirty firefighters responded to help put out the fire, which was confined to the kitchen on the first floor.

One firefighter sustained a minor injury and was treated and released at the scene.

Fire officials are unsure of a damage estimate and the cause of the blaze is being investigated by the McHenry County Township Fire Protection District and the McHenry County Sheriff's Office.

Route 120 was shut down in both directions in the area of the blaze for about an hour, according to authorities.
