Hundreds Without Power During Extreme Cold

ComEd is working to rectify outages being reported throughout the Chicago area.

Hundreds throughout the suburbs are without power today. Authorities are urging anyone who loses power to first check to see if a circuit blew in your home. If the problem is widespread, you should head to a warming shelter while ComEd rectifies the issue, authorities say.

In addition to listing current outages in the area, ComEd has posted the location of warming shelters throughout the suburbs on its outage map. The outage map also estimates how many are without power in affected areas and provides an estimated time for restoration.

As of 9:30 a.m., there were 85 without power in Bull Valley, 151 without power in Round Lake Park, 191 without power in Mundelein and 101 without power in Wadsworth. More widespread power outages were reported in Oak Lawn (1,17 customers affected), Blue Island (1,252 customer affected) and Evergreen Park (746 affected). Small pockets of outages, with less than 20 affected, were also being reported in Crystal Lake, Gurnee and South Elgin.
