Husband Gets 50 Years In Craigslist Prostitution Murder

Timothy Smith has been sentenced for fatally shooting Kurt Milliman, 48, in May 2011.

WOODSTOCK, IL — A 34-year-old Woodstock man who pimped his wife over Craigslist, and then killed a man responding to the prostitution ad, has been sentenced to 50 years in prison, prosecutors said Thursday. Tim Smith will be required to serve all of his sentence for the first-degree murder conviction. He is accused of using a .38-caliber handgun to fatally shoot Kurt Milliman, 48, in Smith’s home after Milliman responded to the ad on May 18, 2011.

The ad featured Smith’s wife, Kimberly Smith. Milliman was shot following a disagreement, according to a news release from the McHenry County State’s Attorney’s Office.

After murdering Milliman, authorities said Tim Smith staged the scene to make it look like a break-in. During a subsequent interview, Smith claimed the shooting was an accident.
Police allege Smith planted false evidence by having his wife call his cell phone in an attempt to show he wasn't at home at the time of the incident.

Kimberly Smith was charged with obstructing justice for reporting a nonexistent home invasion the night of the shooting and saying Tim Smith was not at home at the time, according to Patch reports.

She was found guilty in 2013 of making a false report of an offense and sentenced to three years in prison, two years of probation and to pay $1,800 in fines, according to online court records.
