Invasive Brush Clearing Efforts Underway at Willows Edge Park

Crystal Lake Park District Willows Edge Park is located at 1000 W. Ackman Rd

Residents may notice an invasive brush clearing effort being carried out at Willows Edge Park, just south and east of the intersection of Waterford Cut and Huntley Rd. This project is being done to remove and halt the spread of invasive species such as common buckthorn (Rhamnus cathartica) and Callery Pear (Pyrus calleryana). This initiative is intended to "release" the ground level herbaceous vegetation from the smothering brush, increase native vegetation

diversity and improve habitat quality at the park. After the clearing effort is complete, the project area will be assessed through the coming growing season to see what level of recruitment of volunteer desirable species is developing. The need for installing supplemental native seed will be determined during this assessment.
