On Saturday, April 25, 2015, Lake County Center for Independent Living (LCCIL) celebrated 25 years of service to people with disabilities at our Gala Benefit. LCCIL serves individuals with disabilities who live in Lake and McHenry counties.
The evening was filled with excitement, laughter, and heart-warming support of our work and the consumers we serve. Funds were raised through raffle, live and silent auction, and more. Of special note is the presentation of the LCCIL Community Excellence Award given to former County Clerk Willard Helander. Clerk Helander received this award for her work to ensure that people with disabilities can exercise their right to vote freely and independently.
We extend a special thanks to our key note speaker, Kathleen Ryg for her moving words that reflected upon our proud history of serving the disability community over the last 25 years. Recognition must also be given to the sponsors of the event: Peak 6, Aetna Better Health, KOS CPAs, and CignaHealthspring. Our work is made possible by the generosity of these sponsors, the many donors, and our community at large.
LCCIL was founded in the same year that President George H.W. Bush signed the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) into law. The ADA ensures equal access to employment, education, telecommunications, and public services. LCCIL and the ADA are pivotal to the advancement of disability rights in our country. Stay tuned for upcoming celebrations throughout 2015!
