Lint in Overheated Dryer Sparks Blaze at Home Near McHenry: Fire Officials

The fire in unincorporated McHenry started in the laundry room of the residence.

MCHENRY COUNTY, IL - Lint that had built up in a dryer that overheated sparked a blaze that caused $5,000 in damage to a home in unincorporated McHenry, fire officials said. The McHenry Township Fire Protection District was called to the fire in the 1600 block of Lincoln Road at about 7:36 p.m. Monday. When firefighters arrived, they found heavy smoke coming from the two-story single-family home.

There were two people inside the home trying to extinguish the fire. Firefighters removed the occupants from the residence, according to a news release.

Firefighters found the blaze in the laundry room of the home and extinguished it. Investigators determined the blaze started when a dryer in the laundry room overheated and ignited lint that was built up inside of the dryer and dryer vent, according to fire officials.

One of the occupants of the home was evaluated by paramedics at the scene but refused to be transported to a hospital. The blaze caused an estimated at $5,000 in damage, and the house is still habitable, according to the news release.

The McHenry Township Fire Protection District was assisted by the Wauconda Fire District.
