LITH Man Killed In DUI Crash: Police

A Woodstock man faces drunken driving charges in connection with the two-vehicle collision Monday night in Hebron.

MCHENRY COUNTY, IL — A 48-year-old Lake in the Hills man is dead and a Woodstock man faces drunken driving charges in connection with a two-vehicle crash he is accused of causing Monday in Hebron, authorities said. Andres Carbajal Bernal is charged with aggravated driving under the influence, four counts of driving under the influence and driving with a suspended driver's license in connection with the collision that claimed the life of the local man, whose name is not yet being released, according to a news release from the McHenry County Sheriff's Office.

The crash occurred at 8:41 p.m. Monday when a 2012 Chevrolet Cruz and a 2016 Hyundai Santa Fe were both headed south on Route 47. Authorities say the Chevrolet ran into the back of the Hyundai, causing both vehicles to go off the roadway, according to the press release. The Hyundai hit a tree and the Chevrolet overturned.

The driver of the Hyundai, the 48-year-old Lake in the Hill man, was pronounced dead at the scene. Bernal was taken to Northwestern Medical Center in McHenry with minor injuries.

He was released from the hospital and transported to the McHenry County Correction Facility.

The 5100 block of Route 47 was closed for six hours following the crash, and the cause of the collision remains under investigation.

Cruz is expected to appear in court Tuesday morning.
