Cary Man Exposes Himself, Threatens Police: Authorities

An unpaid cab fare led to a police investigation in Cary, police said. Colton Howell of Cary now faces charges.

CARY, IL – Bail has been set at $150,000 for a 20-year-old Cary man who is accused of failing to pay his cab fare, exposing his genitals outside his apartment complex and threatening police, which ultimately led to a brief standoff early Monday. Authorities were first called to investigate the report of the unpaid fare at about 12:40 a.m. During their investigation, they tried to talk with the 20-year-old at a residence on Garden Place Circle in Cary and the man, who was later identified as Colton Howell, did not cooperate and threatened to use a firearm to hurt the officers, according to a news release from the Cary Police Department.

He also exposed his genitals to Cary police officers and the public while he was outside the apartment complex, Scott Naydenoff, deputy chief of field operations, told Patch.

Several surrounding police departments were called to the scene and the Northern Illinois Police Alarm System (NIPAS) Emergency Services Team (EST) also responded. Following a brief standoff, Howell was taken into custody and transported to an area hospital for an evaluation, police said.

Police said they never found any firearms on Howell or at the scene.

Howell has been charged with aggravated battery of a peace officer, aggravated assault of a peace officer, public indecency/lewd exposure, consumption of liquor by a minor and resisting a peace officer, according to online records.

He remained in custody at the McHenry County Jail as of Tuesday, according to online jail records. He is next expected in court at 9 a.m. on Thursday, according to online jail records.
