Man Accused Of Sexually Assaulting Child Held Without Pretrial Release

The Crystal Lake man is accused of sexually assaulting a 9-year-old over a three-year period and illegally possessed a shotgun.

McHENRY COUNTY, IL — A Crystal Lake man accused of repeatedly sexually assaulting a child over several years will remain in custody while his case moves forward.

Juan Miramontes, 41, of Crystal Lake, appeared in court Tuesday where McHenry County Judge Cynthia Lamb denied his pre-trial release. He is charged with four counts of predatory criminal sexual assault, Class X felonies, and one count of possession of a weapon by a felon, a Class 3 felony.

According to prosecutors, Miramontes is accused of sexually assaulting a 9-year-old victim over a period of about three years. Authorities allege the assaults occurred multiple times at Miramontes’ home in Crystal Lake, according to a news release from the McHenry County State's Attorney's Office.

During the investigation, law enforcement officers executed a search warrant at the home and recovered a Remington shotgun hidden under Miramontes’ bed, prosecutors said.

Miramontes is prohibited from possessing firearms due to a prior felony conviction, according to the news release. In 2010, he was sentenced to 12 years in prison for home invasion.

Miramontes is next expected in court on April 28.
