Man Admits To Providing Heroin To Man Who Overdosed: Prosecutors

Shawn Brand, 35, could face up to 15 years in prison following his conviction.

MCHENRY COUNTY, IL – A 35-year-old Wonder Lake man faces prison time after admitting to providing heroin to a man who died of an overdose, prosecutors said. Shawn Brand has entered a guilty plea in a McHenry County courtroom to a delivery of a controlled substance charge in connection with Jeremy Caccamo's July 2017 death, according to a news release from the McHenry County State's Attorney's Office. Authorities found Caccamo of Wonder Lake in his bedroom on July 5, 2017, according to the Northwest Herald.

During their investigation, authorities recovered several empty packages at the scene, which contained heroin residue, according to the news release. Authorities also found text messages on Caccamo's phone that indicated he'd set up a drug transaction with Brand and that Brand later sold him two bags of heroin for $20, prosecutors said.

Brand admitted to selling Caccamo two of the baggies found at the scene of Caccamo's death but said the other empty packets were not a part of the transaction.
