$1 Million Bail in Child Sex Assault Case

Richard F. Wachter is accused of sexually assaulting numerous children in the 1990s and 2000s in Woodstock.

WOODSTOCK, IL -- A 53-year-old Woodstock man was arrested last week for allegedly sexually assaulting numerous children in Woodstock in the late 1990s and early 2000s, the Woodstock Police Department announced Monday. Richard F. Wachter, of the 300 block of Raffel Road, is being held on a $1 million bond following his arrest on Aug. 10. The arrest came after an eight-month investigation and Wachter has been charged with one count of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child, a Class X felony; three counts of aggravated criminal sex assault, a Class X felony; three counts of criminal sexual assault, a Class 1 felony; and four counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse, a Class 2 felony.

The McHenry County State's Attorney's Office worked closely with Woodstock police to investigate the case. Illinois law recently changed, which extended the statue of limitations in sexual assaults to juvenile victims, according to the news release.

Police departments in Delafield, Wis., and San Diego, Calif., also assisted in this investigation. An arrest warrant was approved Aug. 9 and Wachter was taken into custody without incident at his home on Aug. 10.

"Due to all the victims being juveniles at the time these crimes occurred, no further information will be
released," according to the news release.

Wachter is next expected in court on Aug. 16.
