Man Charged With Driving Under Influence of Marijuana in Fatal Crash
Brandon A. Stang, 23, of Wauconda has been charged in connection with the crash that killed Stephanie V. Kostenko, 22, of Lake Zurich.

VOLO, IL - A 23-year-old Wauconda man has been charged with driving under the influence of marijuana in a crash that killed a woman walking on Route 12 in Volo earlier this month, police said Friday.
Brandon A. Stang, of the 400 block of North Main Street in Wauconda, is being held on a $100,000 bail after authorities issued an arrest warrant Wednesday on one count of aggravated driving under the influence of cannabis - causing death, which is a class 2 felony, according to a Lake County Sheriff’s Office press release. Stang turned himself into authorities Thursday and is being held on a $100,000 bond.
Stang is accused of being under the influence of marijuana when he struck Stephanie V. Kostenko, 22, of Lake Zurich, with his 2008 Ford Mustang, according to the news release. The crash happened at about 2:38 a.m. on May 5 while Stang was southbound on Route 12, just south of Route 120 in Volo. Kostenko was in the middle of the roadway at the time of the crash, police said.

Kostenko was taken to the hospital with critical injuries where she later died.
