WOODSTOCK, IL — A 32-year-old Woodstock man faces attempted murder and aggravated battery charges for allegations he hit a man with a baseball bat and then stabbed him several times at a Shell gas station early Sunday, authorities said. Ricardo James Carreno Jr., of the 500 block of Birch Road, was arrested at the gas station, 315 N. Madison Street, shortly after midnight on Sunday.

Police initially responded to the gas station after learning Carreno had violated an order of protection, according to the news release. The order of protection was issued for a woman, 31, who was at the gas station with a 32-year-old man when Carreno attacked him, police said.

Police say Carreno approached the man and hit him in the back with a baseball bat and then stabbed him in the back several times, injuring the man. The man was taken to the emergency room at Northwestern Medicine Hospital and then was taken by helicopter to Advocate Condell Medical Center.
