Man Killed in McHenry Co. Crash
The collision occurred Friday afternoon at Route 176 and North Union Road in unincorporated Marengo Township.

A 40-year-old Belvidere man was killed Friday following a two-vehicle crash at Route 176 and North Union Road in unincorporated Marengo Township. The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office responded to the crash at about 5:35 p.m. A preliminary investigation indicates the 2008 Kia Rio, driven by the 40-year-old man, was traveling south on North Union Road when it came to a stop sign, according to a McHenry County Sheriff’s Office news release.
A 2007 Ford F-150, driven by an 80-year-old Marengo man, was traveling west on Route 176 and did not have a stop sign, according to a news release.
For an unknown reason, the Kia failed to yield to the Ford and drove into the intersection where the vehicles collided, police said.
The driver and sole occupant of the Kia was pronounced dead at the scene. The McHenry County Coroner’s Office has identified the driver as Ryan B. Weberpal, 40, of Belvidere.

The driver and sole occupant of the Ford sustained non-life threatening injuries and was transported by ambulance to Northwestern Hospital in Huntley.
All occupants were wearing seat belts and airbags deployed in both vehicles.

The investigation is ongoing by the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office Major Crash Investigations Unit and the McHenry County Coroner’s Office.
