Man Sentenced In Murder Of His Wife
Lorin Volberding, 74, will spend the rest of his life in prison after a McHenry County judge sentenced him to 50 years.

MCHENRY COUNTY, IL — A 74-year-old man will spend the rest of his life in jail for fatally shooting his wife in February 2017. A McHenry County judge sentenced Lorin Volberding to 50 years in prison on a first-degree murder charge.
Volberding was arrested following the Feb. 3, 2017, death of his wife. On that day, he called his neighbor and left a voicemail saying he'd shot and killed Elizabeth Volberding, according to a news release from the McHenry County State's Attorney's Office.
Police responded to the home in the 10800 block of East Rivera Drive and after a brief stand-off, entered the home and found Elizabeth Volberding's body on the kitchen floor.

She died from a single gunshot wound to the neck following a domestic dispute, according to prosecutors.
Volberding must serve 100 percent of his sentence.
