MCCD Hosts Candlelit Night Hike This Weekend

The night hike will be held at Rush Creek Conservation Area, 20501 McGuire Road, Harvard.

MCHENRY COUNTY, IL -- The McHenry County Conservation District will host a candlelight night hike from 5 to 9 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 18 and Saturday, Jan. 19 at Rush Creek Conservation Area, 20501 McGuire Road, Harvard. Those wanting to stop out can drop in anytime for this free activity, according to a news release from the conservation district. In addition to the fresh air and exercise, there will be hot chocolate and snacks around the campfire for those who attend.

Pets are not allowed to the night hike.

The next candlelight hike will be held on Feb. 15 and 16 at Prairieview Education Center in Crystal Lake.

For those who do not want to wait until the next special event, the conservation district offers cross-country skiing and hiking every night until 9 p.m. on solar lit trails at Pleasant Valley Conservation Area in Woodstock, with a half-mile loop through prairie, and at Hickory Grove Highlands in Cary, with a 1-mile looped trail through the wooded savanna.

Sites open late during daylight savings time change. After March 10, 2019 sites close at sunset.
