MCCD Hosts 'Run Wild' 5K in October
The 5K trail run will wind through McHenry County woodland, prairie and wetland habitats.
CARY, IL — The McHenry County Conservation District is hosting its third annual Run Wild - Race for Open Space in October at Hickory Grove Highlands, 500 Hickory Nut Grove Lane in Cary. The 5k trail run is meant for ages 5 years old and older and will trek through woodland, prairie and wetland habitats.
The run will include fall colors and stunning views of wildflowers, grasses and towering oak and hickory trees along the wooded trail. This timed event features moderate terrain to provide an exciting and challenging experience for runners of all skill levels, according to a MCCD press release.
There will be prizes for the top male and female finishers, unique finisher medals for each participant, plus a runner’s raffle.

Registration is now open and the cost is $35 for adults who sign up before 5 p.m. on Oct. 4 and will be $42 the day of the event. The cost to register children ages 5 to 13 years old is $20.
Registration includes a t-shirt, race bib and race day snacks. Registration and details are available online.

Proceeds from the race will benefit the community by providing funds to provide recreational and educational opportunities for individuals and families to connect with the natural world.
