“Influenza (flu) is a contagious respiratory illness that can have serious outcomes for some people, such as individuals 65 years of age and older, infants and young children, and individuals with chronic health conditions,” said MCDH Nursing Director Susan Karras. “The flu vaccination is the best way to prevent the flu, it protects not only you but those around you.”
Everyone 6 months of age and older should receive the flu vaccine every season. After receiving the vaccine, it takes 2 weeks for the body to build the antibodies needed for protection. MCDH is offering the quadrivalent vaccine which covers four strains, two influenza A strains and two influenza B strains.
