Participants must wear a mask and maintain social distancing and are responsible for unloading tires that are to be recycled.

Solid Waste Manager Kelli Boeckmann said the event is a good opportunity for residents to reduce the potential for mosquito harborage on their property.

“Old, discarded tires can collect water where disease causing mosquitos can breed,” Boeckmann said. “This no-cost opportunity allows residents to get rid of those potential breeding sites and reduce vector-borne illnesses like West Nile Virus.”

The following event restrictions apply:

  • Only McHenry County residents are eligible. Pre-registration is required by contacting MCDH at 815-334-4585.
  • A limited number of tires will be accepted. Participants will need to provide the type and number of tires to be dropped off when registering.
