MCHENRY COUNTY, IL — A 74-year-old man will spend the rest of his life in prison after he was found guilty of murdering his wife during a trial this past week in McHenry County. Lorin Volberding called his neighbor on Feb. 3, 2017, at about 12:30 p.m., and left a voicemail where he stated he had shot and killed his wife, prosecutors said.
The neighbor called the Spring Grove Police Department. Officers responded at the home in the 10800 block of East Riveria Drive and, following a brief stand-off, entered the home, according to a news release from the McHenry County State's Attorney's Office.
There they found Elizabeth Volberding's body on the kitchen floor and determined Lorin Volberding shot his wife following a domestic dispute, according to the news release. She died from a single gunshot wound.
