McHenry Co. Man Indicted on Federal Child Porn Charges

The registered sex offender is again facing charges--this time in federal court.

A Solon Mills man was indicted Tuesday by a federal grand jury on charges of child pornography.

Wayne Gibbons, 66, was charged with two counts of transporting child pornography over the Internet in June 2013. Each count of transporting child pornography carries a mandatory minimum sentence of five years in prison and a maximum of 20 years, as well as a $250,000 maximum fine, according to a news release from the United States Attorney's Office Northern District of Illinois.

This is not the first time Gibbons has faced criminal charges.

In 2006, Gibbons, who lived in Wonder Lake at the time, was convicted of aggravated criminal sexual abuse for performing a sex act on a 13-year-old boy, the Northwest Herald reports. He was sentenced to 4 1/2 years in prison and ordered to register as a sex offender for life.

Gibbons was also convicted in 1989 of possession of child pornography in McHenry County, according to online court records.
