McHenry County Food Pantries Need Help: Officials

According to McHenry County Emergency Management Agency, food pantries are seeing more clients yet are receiving fewer donations.

CRYSTAL LAKE, IL—The deteriorating economy due to the new coronavirus is putting many McHenry residents out of work, according to the McHenry County Emergency Management Agency. Unfortunately, their need for food does not decrease. MCEMA officials say many people are turning to local food pantries for the first time.

However, many food pantries are faced with a major problem. Agency officials say donations to food pantries have decreased dramatically.

"Cash donations are also down while limitation on bulk buying by pantries has reduced the buying power of each donated dollar," emergency officials said in a recent social media post.
