Coroner IDs Lake in the Hills Man Killed in Crash Near Crystal Lake

The one-car crash happened Sunday evening on Ackman Road west of Huntley Road in unincorporated Grafton Township.

MCHENRY COUNTY, IL - A 68-year-old Lake In The Hills man killed in a crash Sunday near Crystal Lake has been identified as Syed A. Quadar.

The McHenry County Coroner’s Office ruled Quadar died from blunt force trauma injuries to the head and chest following the one-car crash that occurred on Ackman Road west of Huntley Road in unincorporated Grafton Township at 5:27 p.m. on Saturday.

Quadar was driving a 2000 Oldsmobile Silhouette van west on Ackman Road when the vehicle left the north side of the roadway for unknown reasons and collided with a utility pole and multiple trees, according to a McHenry County Sheriff’s Office press release.

Deputies believe a medical episode may have occurred, which contributed to the cause of the crash. Alcohol has been eliminated as a potential cause for the crash.


Quadar was taken to Centegra Hospital in Woodstock where he was pronounced dead at 8:25 p.m., according to a press release from the coroner’s office.

Quadar was the only occupant in the vehicle at the time of the crash and had been wearing his seatbelt. No airbags were deployed during the crash.

Ackman Road remained closed for four and a half hours Sunday night during the investigation.

The investigation is ongoing by the McHenry County Sheriff’s Traffic Crash Investigations Unit and the McHenry County Coroner’s Office. Crystal Lake Police Department, Crystal Lake Park District Police, and Volunteers from the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office Volunteer Program assisted with traffic control.
